Good Times in Nice, France 2005

A few weeks ago, I received an email called “Good Times in Nice, France 2005″ from a friend I made while travelling. It was timely (as I was feeling nostalgic at the time) and a pleasant surprise. We hadn’t communicated in over 6 years and I think it was through msn messenger that we last touched base. (By the way, does anyone use MSN messenger still?)
My friend, Josh, attached these three photos below to remind me who he was. As if I will ever forget! His resonating statement was,”They are out of focus and kinda blurry but I still remember that night very well.”
I will never forget that night.
After a few drinks, we walked around Nice looking for a club in the early morning hours. We didn’t find one. The streets weren’t busy but we were determined to find something. When we finally stumbled upon a venue with a bar sign, we tried to open the door, but it was locked. We pressed on the buzzer and a French woman poked her head out.
The conversation went something like this.
“We want to go inside,” we asserted.
“This place isn’t for you. It’s for Americans,” French lady said.
“He’s American,” I exclaimed, pointing to Josh.
She didn’t have a response to that, and allowed us entry. It looked like a lounge. We plopped ourselves at the bar and ordered Baileys. A few seconds more of scoping out the place, I notice young women and old men paired together.
Hhmmm.
I think we ended in a “gentlemen’s club” of some sort! I went to the washroom and witnessed a lap dance, I think, behind some curtains. Yikes. After returning from the washroom, we decided to down our Baileys and get out of there, fast.
I will never forget that night. Thanks, Josh for reminding me of fun times in Nice.
Josh and his wife are interested in joining me in the Caribbean this November. I really hope they do! With moments like this in Nice, who knows what experiences we’ll have in the Caribbean!
